We understand that every student’s learning style is different. Some students work well in groups and others work better one-on-one. Our individual math coaching program provides one-on-one coaching once or twice a week depending on the student’s academic needs and goals. In addition, we don’t just cater to students who are excelling academically. We also understand that some students really struggle in math and they need help too. Often times that is because there is a gap in their understanding that is hindering them from grasping the on-level content. For this, reason our one-on-one remediation program is designed to go back and fill the gaps from previous years and provide the student the necessary pre-requisite skills to start rebuilding their confidence and achieve academic success in their math course.

Individualized Worksheets
Upon analyzing the initial assessment, we create an individualized plan to fill in the gaps by giving the student practice worksheets designed to reinforce the pre-requisite skills the student needs to get back on grade level.

how does it work?
A student will select a time each week to work with one of our math coaches. Similar to our homework help program, students are encouraged to come with specific questions to ensure that our session addresses the individual needs of the student. If the student has an upcoming assessment, our attention will go towards preparing for that assessment. If the student has just taken an assessment, then the math coach will pre-teach the material for the next unit and get them ahead.
If remediation is needed, each student will take an initial on-grade level assessment. Based on that assessment we will identify the gaps that need to be filled. After the student completes a series of worksheets designed to reinforce a particular skill, a second assessment will be given to ensure this skill has been retained. Then we move on to the next major gap. However, because we believe that learning is cumulative, we will consistently return to the previous gap to ensure retention. The next assessment will not only cover the current gap but the previous one as well. This process will continue until all of the identified gaps are filled at which time the student can then move into one of our other on grade level programs.
It is important to note that the student may or may not see immediate results because this program focuses specifically on content that is off grade level rather than the current content being taught in the classroom. However, we are confident that over time it will make a significant difference in their understanding resulting in increased confidence and better grades!
